The Development Council started in 1976. It administered fund raising opportunities, volunteers and educational programs for the community. It was formed to address the need for involvement, health education, and wellness promotion in the community. Today, it continues to be a vital part of fund raising and community involvement for the hospital.

Development Council Events & Projects

Celebrity Waiter Dinner- This fund raiser is a creative night of musical performances by local talent and dinner hosted by the Development Council. Members of the CWD Committee create an evening of entertainment where guests raise money for the hospital by tipping their waiters, buying raffl e tickets and sponsoring tables. Community involvement is a huge part of this event. Students from Atchison and Holt counties wait on tables as well as special guests who include hospital employees and Development Council members. CommuniTEE Benefi t Golf Classic
- In its 18th year, the golf tournament continues to be the Development Council’s most successful fund raiser. The tournament rotates between Mound City, Tarkio and Rock Port golf courses. Businesses and community members form teams to compete in the 2-day tournament. The Golf Committee is formed from Development Council members and community members who have a passion for the game who plan the event fun for avid golfers and those who like to play just for fun.

Pediatric Orientation
- First graders from Atchison, Holt and Nodaway counties visit the hospital for a tour. They play dress up and role play what it would be like to be a patient. Development Council members coordinate the visits with teachers and give wheelchair rides and hand out bags of goodies to the children before they return to school.

Women’s Health Event in November
- This gives ladies a chance to get together to learn about health and lifestyle topics. Special speakers and hospital staff members present programs on a variety of topics.
Development Council Members Carla Summa and Pat Fisher show off the give-a-ways that were handed to women as the arrived at the 2009 Me Market. The first 100 guests received handmade soaps and a bag filled with health information. Development Council Members Tracy Oswald and Amy Hurst host the registration table at the Me Market. They greeted guests and signed everyone up for door prizes, which were given away to several winners throughout the day.


Annual Appeal
- The development council assists with mailing the annual appeal for support for Community Hospital-Fairfax.

Health Education Program Scholarships
- The Development Council awards scholarships twice a year to students who are pursuing a health care profession. Brochures are supplied by the Development Department to high school and area colleges and instituitions to inform students about the scholarships.

Prostate Screening in September
-Development Council members coordinate appointments and assist patients with forms.
Public Speaking Bureau- The Development Office coordinates programs for community organizations to invite Community Hospital-Fairfax employees to speak about health related topics and issues at the hospital.
