Cardiac Clinic

Days of Service: Weekly Clinic Hours Available

This clinic provides consultation and treatment of the heart and blood vessels for adults, interprets Holter Monitor Tests, Echocardiograms and performs Cardiac Stress (treadmill) tests. In addition to the outpatient clinic, inpatients are seen at CHA.

Cardiac Holter Monitor

Hours of Service: Monday —Thursday 7:00AM — 4:30 PM

The Holter Monitor has 5 electrodes applied to patient s chest with a tiny monitor to carry with them for approximately 24 hours. The procedure is done as an inpatient or outpatient for patients 20 years and older by the nurse who applies and removes Holter and scans report after the Holter is removed. The doctor ordering the procedure reads the scan, reports the findings and will refer the patient to the cardiologist if necessary. This test can determine a heart arrhythmia or irregular heart beat.

Cardiac Stress Test

Hours of Service: Per Physician Request

This is a cardiac challenge under monitored conditions for age 20 and up. The procedure is done as an outpatient and takes 15 minutes for the prep and 30 minutes for the test. The test is monitored by Physicians on staff and the Cardiologists. The patient comes approximately 15 minutes early to have the electrodes applied to chest area and hooked up to treadmill machine/computer. Patient will walk on the treadmill and will be monitored by the physician and nurse. Patient will need to walk on the treadmill until they reach target exercise heart rate or unable to continue due to chest pain or fatigue. Patient will then be closely monitored for several minutes after the test.

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

Hours of Service: Outpatients-Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-5:00 PM Inpatient/ER always available

The test is done to check electrical current of heart. The testing may be performed on all ages of patients and the average length of the test is 5 to 10 minutes. The procedure can be done by the nurses, FNP or Respiratory Staff as an outpatient or inpatient.

Echocardiogram / Vascular Studies

Hours of Service: Per Physician Request

Echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. A Doppler is run over the heart to get a view of the hearts chambers, blood flow, and valves. It also will include the hearts ejection fraction percent, which is the force in which the heart can pump blood out of heart to the rest of the body. Vascular tests are done for arterial and venous studies of lower extremities. Carotid Doppler studies are done to evaluate blood flow and circulation in the carotid arteries in the neck. The testing time is 45-60 minutes for age 20 and up. The procedure is performed by a Technician as an outpatient or inpatient.

Stress Echo

Hours of Service: Monday and Tuesday Every other week

This testing is used to diagnose cardiac disease and malfunction. It is performed on adults during the cardiac clinic. Echocardiogram and stress test on treadmill are required.

Respiratory Therapy

Hours of Service: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM-5:00 PM On Call Evenings and Weekends

Respiratory Therapy is done on any inpatients or emergency room patients having difficulty breathing or in respiratory distress. Patients of any age can receive breathing treatments and/or respiratory therapy. Patient teaching for home use is available. Services include performing pulmonary function tests, administering aerosol treatments, chest percussion, administration of inhalers, teaching the use of inhalers and nebulizer treatments, oxygen therapy, peak flows, incentive spirometers, croup tents, and oxygen saturation monitoring.

Pulmonary Function Test

Hours of Service: 7:00 AM — 5:00 PM Monday-Friday

This test measures vital capacity, inspiratory capacity, expiratory reserve volume, functional residual capacity, residual volume, total lung capacity, peak flow, and tidal volume. Ages 13 and up are tested by the Respiratory Nurse or Therapist. The test takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete as an outpatient or an inpatient. This test can indicate an obstructive or restrictive lung defect, such as asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema.

Pulmonary Clinic

Hours of Service: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM 2nd Monday of the Month

This clinic provides consultation and treatment for diseases of the lungs. The Physician interprets pulmonary function tests and blood gases and is also experienced with adult wound care management. In addition to the outpatient clinic, inpatients are also seen at CHA.

Sleep Studies

Hours of Service: Tuesday Evenings 7:00 PM- 5:00 AM

An outside provider at Community Hospital does this testing. The outside agency will contact adult patients for information and scheduling time. This is used to diagnose sleep apnea and related sleep disorders.
