CH-F hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Month pajama party
Since its start over 20 years ago, the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month organization
has been striving to inform women about breast cancer and the importance of early
detection.
To help the organization in its efforts to spread knowledge about a cancer that,
according to the American Cancer Society, affected 178,480 lives in 2007, Community
Hospital-Fairfax is planning a special event for October 16th.
Community Hospital-Fairfax has scheduled an additional Evening Mammogram service
for Thursday, October 16th to encourage women to speak with their doctors
about scheduling a mammogram and to inform women about early detection.
The American Cancer Society recommends women should start getting yearly mammograms
at age 40.
Community Hospital-Fairfax mamographer and radiology technologist Beth Mackey adds
that women whose mothers have been diagnosed with breast cancer should start mammograms
when she is 10 years younger than the age at which her mother was diagnosed.
“If your mother’s cancer was found at age 45, you should start screening at age
35,” Mackey explained.
Community Hospital-Fairfax wants to acknowledge October as National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month by sharing information and resources by giving women a night out
with the girls!
To celebrate women’s health, the Development Council is hosting a Breast Cancer
Awareness Pajama Party. Women are encouraged to come to Community Hospital-Fairfax
on Oct. 16, from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. to enjoy pink ribbon cookies, popcorn, and chick
flick movies. There will also be brochures, information and other resources regarding
breast cancer.
