Community Hospital-Fairfax Works to Prevent Identity Theft
Community Hospital
-Fairfax is informing patients about a new policy that may require them to present
photo identification at the admissions desk. This policy is in conjunction with
Community Hospital-Fairfax’s compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s “Red
Flag Rules” and will go into effect May 1.
The Red Flags Rule requires health care organizations to implement a written Identity
Theft Prevention Program designed to detect the warning signs – or "red flags" –
of identity theft in their day-to-day operations.
This program will enable Community Hospital-Fairfax to prevent possible identity
theft and respond to it if it occurs.
Because each organization is different, The Federal Trade Commission gave Community
Hospital-Fairfax basic steps and suggestions on how to develop its own identity
theft prevention plan. Part of this plan for the hospital is to require photo identification
upon registration.
Community Hospital-Fairfax
may require photo identification upon registration into the hospital starting May
1.
