Northwest Missouri Homeschoolers visit Community Hospital-Fairfax

A group of home-schooled children from Holt County experienced what it would be like to be a patient at Community Hospital-Fairfax on April 9.

Twenty children visited with Tami Lansdown, RN for Pediatric Orientation, an activity that the hospital’s development council has been providing for area students for many years.

Volunteers Pete Cooper and Shirley Beck helped dress the class up as patients, doctors and nurses and gave wheelchair rides.

The children tested out a patient bed and listened to their heartbeats with stethoscopes. They also looked at x-rays with radiology tech Tracy Beason. Community Hospital-Fairfax sent the children home with doctor and nurse hats, a coloring book, a pencil and band-aids.

Pediatric Orientation introduces children to the hospital so they are more comfortable if they are ever admitted to the hospital.
