Author’s Note: This is the final article of a three part series that describes the events offered at the Community Hospital-Fairfax Health Fair

The list of activities for the Community Hospital-Fairfax Health Fair has grown to include many opportunities for every member of your family to learn about healthcare and healthy living.

LifeNet’s helicopter will be flying in for the event. The helicopter that is services the Northwest Missouri region will land on the Fairfax High School football field and will be open for tours. This year, LifeNet is celebrating its tenth year anniversary providing rapid transport for critically ill and injured patients.

Linda Kahle, RN, is the Director of Nursing at Community Hospital-Fairfax. Her booth will feature immunization information. Along with the hospital’s Obstetrics Department and Pharmacist Harold Lawrence, she will provide parents with tips on children’s immunizations and adult immunizations.

"Being a mom and in health care, I understand how confusing the immunization schedule can be. We have a team of trained professionals who can help during these challenging decisions," Linda said.

Missouri State Highway Patrolman Mike Quilty has information on bicycle and school bus safety and proper seatbelt and car seat use. His booth will also feature coloring books and stickers for children to take home.

“I’ll be there to answer any questions about safety regarding school-aged children,” Patrolman Quilty said.

April Stoner, Community Hospital-Fairfax’s Patient Accounts Manager, invites the public to learn about Legal Aid, Medicaid and Medicare at her booth. She will also teach you how to avoid insurance fraud.

Blood pressure checks will be provided by Home Health Director Jeanie Mackey in the cafeteria.

The hospital’s Wellness Committee plans on providing a variety of information on healthy living and skin protection.  You’ll have an opportunity to get your Body Mass Index calculated and win a membership to ABY Fitness in Tarkio.

There will be handouts for parents on protecting their children from sun damage. Children can take home sunscreen samples and learn the American Cancer Society’s “Slip Slop Slap” method protecting their skin.

The Community Hospital-Fairfax staff hopes to see you at the Health Fair on May 15, 2008.
