Red Flags Policies to Take Effect
Community Hospital -Fairfax is informing patients about a new policy that will require
them to present photo identification at the admissions desk. This policy is in conjunction
with the Missouri Hospital Association’s compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s
“Red Flag Rules.”
The Red Flags Rule requires health care organizations to
implement a written Identity Theft Prevention Program designed to detect the warning
signs – or "red flags" – of identity theft in their day-to-day operations.
This program will enable Community Hospital-Fairfax to prevent
possible identity theft and respond to it if it occurs.
Because each organization is different, The Federal Trade
Commission gave Community Hospital-Fairfax basic steps and suggestions on how to
develop its own identity theft prevention plan. Part of this plan for the hospital
is to require photo identification upon registration.
These rules are also used to conduct risk assessments to
identify gaps in billings processes that may put patients at risk of identity theft.
Community Hospital-Fairfax will work with its staff and administration to ensure
patient records are secure and safe from identity theft.
Community Hospital-Fairfax will begin requiring photo identification
upon registration into the hospital May1.
