Nurses Give Nursery a Makeover

The Obstetrics department at Community Hospital-Fairfax received a facelift recently. The nursing staff took the area underneath its wings and painted the nursery, the OB rooms and the nurses’ station. The bright colors and the inspirational words on the walls make the environment home-like and comfortable for patients.

The vinyl letters on the walls of the patient rooms read “Every child is a story yet to be told” and “Motherhood, all love begins and ends there.” The small waiting room outside the nursery has been painted as well. The nursery room is decorated with black and white photos of children born at the hospital, with words on the wall reading “In photos, babies stay babies forever.”

Staff LPN Ashlee Driskell says the new look of the OB department cheers everyone up.

“The new moms seem to really like the atmosphere and the nurses like the change as well,” Driskell says.

Another upside of the decorations is the usability. The nurses chose the vinyl letters because they can be removed and transferred to the new hospital in 2010.

“We want to recreate this theme in the new hospital too,” Driskell said.

Community Hospital-Fairfax’s Obstetrics Department is recognized by many in the community for its dedication to personal care for the entire family. Care starts before delivery and carries on after babies arrive. Obstetric RNs, Dina Johnson and Andrea Carder are available 24 hours a day by phone to answer any questions new parents have.
